Healthcare industry one of the most mobile

BLUE BELL, PA – Healthcare IT workers are among the biggest users of smart phones and other mobile technology, but addressing the security needs of such devices remains a critical concern, according to a survey released today.

Forrester Consulting conducted the study on behalf of Fiberlink, the Blue Bell, Pa.-based developer of cloud-based "Mobility as a Service" (MaaS) solutions.

The study, titled "Managing and Securing Mobile Healthcare Data and Devices," found that 95 percent of healthcare enterprises relying on smartphones for work, making the industry one of the most mobile across all verticals.

CCHIT warns certification plan might slow adoption

CCHIT Chairman Mark Leavitt, MDWASHINGTON – The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) said it believes the Interim Final Rule (IFR) on standards and certification might cause "unintended deceleration in the pace of adoption."

In comments filed March 12 to the Office of the National Coordinator, CCHIT said the IFR - the administration's proposal for EHR standards and certification - drops some standards that were already widely adopted yet introduces other criteria that require an "unrealistic leap forward."

"We believe the criteria and standards need refinement in order to drive an achievable step forward in the meaningful use of EHRs," said CCHIT Chairman Mark Leavitt, MD. CCHIT has been the sole official certifier of EHRs since 2006.
